Clippers’ Kawhi Leonard gets final Team USA spot

Kawhi Leonard Kawhi Leonard, the LA Clippers forward, has obtained the last spot in the Team USA basketball roster for the 2024 Olympics in Paris according to reports by the ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. 

The entire roster was announced officially on Wednesday, with Leonard's selection confirmed the previous day. 

Grant Hill, the managing director of USA Basketball, recently met with the 12 athletes selected as part of the Olympic team. It was not until Tuesday that Leonard's inclusion was confirmed which made him the final player to be added to the team. 

Hill expressed his confidence in the team's abilities when he appeared on the NBC's "Today" show, emphasizing the strength of the team and acknowledging the challenges that lie ahead in the upcoming competition. 

They will be led by Steve Kerr of the Golden State Warriors and will have Erik Spoelstra, Tyronn Lue as well as Mark Few serving as assistants.  

Leonard who averaged 23.7 per game and 6.1 rebound this season, was unable to play in the past seven games with knee problems but is scheduled to play for the national team in the coming Olympics. 

The preparations to the Olympics will include a training camp and exhibition games scheduled during July, in Las Vegas. The Olympic events are scheduled for July 26 through August 11, when 12 teams will compete to win the gold basketball medal.
