Start by making or buying pizza dough. If making it at home, you'll need flour, water, yeast, salt, and olive oil. Knead the dough until it's smooth and elastic, then let it rise for at least an hour until it doubles in size.
Preheat your oven to the highest temperature it can go, typically around 500°F (260°C), and place a pizza stone or baking sheet in the oven to heat up.
Traditional Margherita pizza sauce is simple. Crushed tomatoes, olive oil, minced garlic, salt, and fresh basil are all you need. Mix them together in a bowl and set aside.
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a circle about 12 inches (30 cm) in diameter. Make sure it's not too thick or too thin.
